Hey I have several question one is that I feel like so far I’m the only one to have never heard of Verb + しかない i only heard of Noun+しかない Could you tell me more about this grammar? This was in reference to Situation 3 another thing that was answered but brought about another question was the やる気出ない if 出る in here measn to get a feeling how’s that different from 気がする？ and last でも まだ 仕事あるって I understand everything except that って I looked it up in The beginner dictionary saying the following Is only omited after って if 言う is implied after and I get that but it doesn’t make sense here translated as But I still have word i/someone said or for a replacement of そう meaning “Heard” Thank you for your time
※ (noun) + しかない – there’s only (noun). The noun is the only choice (option).
※ (verb) + しかない – have no choice but to (verb)
やるしかない – There’s nothing but to do it. Just need to do it.
※やる気が出ない (「が」can be omitted when speaking casually)
- don’t feel like doing something, be not motivated
※やる気 – motivation
※出る – come out, come up, produce, occur
※ xxxな気がする – get the impression that xxx, get the sense that xxx,
Example: あの箱の中には何かがあるような気がする。
- I have a feeling there is something in that box.

– But they said we still have work to do.
(They could be their supervisor or senior worker.)
It implies the speaker got the information directly.
※ (verb – standard form) + そう – (hearsay) I hear that xxx
まだ仕事があるそうだよ。- I hear we still have work to do.

1.) そう which measn they heard from the source directly and It can be replaced with with って but isn’t そう and 言ってた the same thing in this regard?
2.) って could either mean って言った as in he/ she said but wasnt there when they said it or って言ってた which would apply u eas there when they said it so how do ik which implication of って is being used here?
3.) Verb+しかない vs Verbばかり I did some digging and came across both meaning there’s nothing left to do but this verb and was wondering what’s the difference in usage?

A「明日、テストするって先生が言ってたよ。」- The teacher said they’re going to test tomorrow. (The speaker heard it directly from the teacher.)
B「明日、テストするそうだよ。」
– It depends on the situation, but usually, the speaker overheard or got the information from someone else. They just want to provide information. They are unsure if it’s true, but they heard that.
2.) って could either mean って言った as in he/ she said but wasnt there when they said it or って言ってた which would apply u eas there when they said it so how do ik which implication of って is being used here?
ー I’m not sure what you’d like to ask, but both って言った and って言ってた work since “って” works in the same way as “that” (someone said that…) in English.
Or if the question is about “言った” and “言ってた,” the former simply tells the fact. 言ってた is used when the speaker wants to talk about it or ask someone about it.
I’m not sure if it works in the same way in English, but it’s like:
って言った – I heard someone say xxx
って言ってた – I heard someone saying xxx

I think the problem is that you are trying to understand just words and phrases.
You may gain knowledge and information, but you may not gain a deeper understanding. So instead of asking such questions, try to create sentences using grammar you are not confident with on the Writing Exercises page.
That way you can ask more specific questions and we can understand what you do not understand.
In situation 3, “もうやる気(き)出(で)ない…。How is “出” used here? It’s not mentioned in the notes below the situation.
出る here means “(something or a certain feeling) generates.”
So やる気が出る literally means motivation generates, which actually means “get motivated.”
やる気が出ない is a negative form of it, and it means “I don’t feel motivated” or “I don’t feel like doing anything.”
I think “get” or “feel” convey the meaning of 出る.
In situation 4, would 他の人 also be acceptable or is 方 preffered here due to formality?
方 is much more polite than 人
In this situation, either is fine. Depends on how polite you want to come across.

What does みれば mean? Judging from the sentence translation it’s something like “why not”, “why dont”, but I had a feeling there’s more meaning to it, is there?
