Situation 1

Yamamoto-san is speaking to Kimura-san, who lives nearby.

木村：山本さん！サッカーやってる息子さん。東京代表チームに選ばれたんですか？

木村(きむら)：山本(やまもと)さん！サッカーやってる息子(むすこ)さん。東京(とうきょう)代表(だいひょう)チームに選(えら)ばれたんですか？

Kimura: Yamamoto-san! Your son who plays soccer. I heard he was chosen for the Tokyo representative team?

Kimura: That's amazing! Congratulations.

Yamamoto: Thank you. But why do you know about it?

木村：結構、うわさになってますよ。それに、みんなで応援しようって話してます。

Kimura: It's become quite the topic of discussion. There is also talk of cheering him on together.

Yamamoto: Is that so? I am happy to hear you say that.

木村：うわさでは、日本代表になるかもって言われてますよ。

Kimura: Some are saying that he could become a member of the national team.

山本：ははは。そうなんですか。

Yamamoto: Hahaha. Is that so?

木村：まあ、いつも一生懸命練習してましたしねえ。それで、次はどこと戦うんですか？

Kimura: Well, he did always practice as hard as he could. So, who will his team be playing against next?

Takeshi and his mother are talking.

タケシ：お母さん、おなか減った。お菓子ちょうだい。

タケシ：お母(かあ)さん、おなか減(へ)った。お菓子(かし)ちょうだい。

Takeshi: Mom, I'm hungry. Give me some sweets.

• おなか stomach; belly

お母さん：だめ。もう五時じゃん。ご飯食べられなくなるよ。

Mom: No. It's five o'clock already. You won't be able to eat dinner.

タケシ：大丈夫！ちゃんと食べれるよ。

Takeshi: I'm fine! I'll be able to eat dinner.

お母さん：この前もそんな事言ってたのに、残したじゃん。あの時もたしか五時ぐらいだったよ。

Mom: If you leave any of your dinner, you won't be able to eat any sweets at all from now on.

Takeshi: What? That's an impossible promise. You're terrible.
