Situation 1
At the company, two coworkers are talking.

イシダ：会社から駅までの間、けっこう歩きますしね。これから雨、もっとひどくなるみたいです。
- 駅 station
- 間、あいだ distance, space (between), period; 間に during, while: 寝てる間に電話があった。I had a call while I was asleep.
アイダ：母に電話して、車で来てもらおうかな。電話気づくかな。メールしてみよう。
- 母 mother (more formal than お母さん)
- メール e-mail; メールする to e-mail
イシダ：そうですね、雨の中、駅まで行くのは大変ですよね。電車もいっぱいだし。お母さん、アイダさんからのメールに気づくといいですね。
アイダ：はい、ありがとうございます。そうしたら母からのメールを待つ間に、もう少し仕事していきますね。

ハヤシ：動物は何が好き？

タケダ：猫は、自分の興味に合わせて動いている所がいいってこと。
- 動く to move; to work (machine)
ハヤシ：それおもしろいね。どんな人が好きかってことと同じかな。
タケダ：そうだね。自分をしっかり持っている人が好きって意味。人に合わせるんじゃなくて。
- しっかり properly; tightly; solidly
ハヤシ：タケダさんは、しっかりした人が好きってことだね。

Hayashi: That’s interesting. I guess it’s the same with what kind of people you like?

i didnt quite understand this sentence because of the 「ってことと」
if i split the sentence to study it would be something like:
– どんな人が好きか: what kind of people like
– って: somebody said
– こと: ところ explained the reason
– と同じかな。: i guess it is the same
then i will just ignore the 「ってことと」 and try to rewrite in a easier way without 「ってことと」.
by doing so, i think it would be something like どんな人が好きでも同じかな。
is there a easier or faster way to understand this 「ってことと」 in the sentence どんな人が好きかってことと同じかな。?

2) タケダ：そうだね。自分をしっかり持っている人が好きって意味。
ハヤシ：タケダさんは、しっかりした人が好きってことだね。

しっかり持っている人 and しっかりした人 can be both translate as “people who are confident”?
can use 自信 instead?
something like 「そうだね。自信たっぷり人が好きって意味。」 or 「十分な自信の人が好きって意味」 or the meaning of the sentence would change?
If you ignore ってことと、you can say どんな人が好きかと同じかな。 This is a more understandable and the fastest way to say.

しっかり持っている人 means that the person who is not often influenced by somebody else.
The person has his/her opinion and strong will to do what his/her believe or want. It gives a quite positive nuance. Trustful.
自信たっぷりの人give a bit of negative nuance. It indicates just confidence. Not sure whether the person’s confidence is trustful or not.
So, in this context, 自信たっぷり is not interchangeable.
