Let's practice what you learned here.
In situation three
Is translated as “ Um, how about showing them to someone?”. Could it also be translated as “um, how about having someone look at them”?
They want to show them to get feedback. So if there’s a nuance of asking someone to look at them, it’s OK.
Situation 2
Situation 3
In this case, it’s her intention. I’ll buy this pen.
If she wants to convince Maki to buy the same pen together, she would say
(Let’s get this pen.)
(Would you like to buy this pen together?)
ー 見てもらう is a causative verb. It means “have someone check it out.”
見せる means “show.” If they say “I’ll show someone them” or “I’ll let someone show them,” then you can say:
見てもらう suggests someone will check them out more actively.
In the sentence 誰かに見てもらう does this translate as to show someone as a favour?
誰かに見てもらう? means “Why don’t you ask someone to check them out?”, or “Do you want to ask someone to take a look at them?”
She said もらう because she expects to get an opinion or advice from someone by showing the earrings. Someone will look at the earrings for Ami.
