Situation 1
A senior employee (male: Honda) and a junior employee (female: Nakamura) are talking at the company about the farewell party of their colleague Mori-san.
本田：森さんって仕事最後の日いつだっけ？
本田(ほんだ)：森(もり)さんって仕事(しごと)最後(さいご)の日(ひ)いつだっけ？
Honda: When's the last day of work for Mori-san again?
中村：15日です。
中村(なかむら)：15日(にち)です。
Nakamura: It is the 15th.
本田：じゃ、その夜みんなで食事に行かない？
本田(ほんだ)：じゃ、その夜(よる)みんなで食事(しょくじ)に行(い)かない？
Honda: Well, why don't we all go out for dinner that night?
- 食事(しょくじ) meal; 食事(しょくじ)する to have a meal
中村：いいですね。
中村(なかむら)：いいですね。
Nakamura: That is a good idea.
本田：中村さん、おいしい店知ってる？
本田(ほんだ)：中村(なかむら)さん、おいしい店(みせ)知(し)ってる？
Honda: Nakamura-san, do you know of any good restaurants?
中村：ええ。場所は会社の近くがいいですか？
中村(なかむら)：ええ。場所(ばしょ)は会社(かいしゃ)の近(ちか)くがいいですか？
Nakamura: Yes. Do you prefer somewhere near the company?

本田：そうだね。または駅の近くとか。

Honda: Yeah. Or maybe somewhere near a train station.

Nakamura: Okay.
本田：森さんは何食べたいかな。

Honda: I wonder what Mori-san would like to eat.
中村：じゃ、ちょっと森さんに聞いてみますね。
中村(なかむら)：じゃ、ちょっと森(もり)さんに聞(き)いてみますね。
Nakamura: Well, I will try asking Mori-san.
本田：それから、みんなで花を買おうと思ってるんだけど。
本田(ほんだ)：それから、みんなで花(はな)を買(か)おうと思(おも)ってるんだけど。
Honda: Also, I'm thinking we all buy some flowers together.

中村：いいですね。きっと喜ぶと思います。

Nakamura: That is a good idea. I'm sure she will be really happy.

Honda: Well, I'll let everyone know about the meal and the flowers.
- 伝(つた)える to tell, to let know; to hand down
中村：じゃ、私は店を探しておきますね。

Nakamura: And I will look for a restaurant.

Situation 2
Two female friends (Miyuki and Tomoko) are talking about a meeting between Tomoko's boyfriend and her parents.
美雪：最近、彼とはどう？
美雪(みゆき)：最近(さいきん)、彼(かれ)とはどう？
Miyuki: How have things been with your boyfriend recently?
知子：今度うちの親に紹介することになったんだ。
知子(ともこ)：今度(こんど)うちの親(おや)に紹介(しょうかい)することになったんだ。
Tomoko: It's been decided that I'll introduce him to my parents soon.
- 紹介(しょうかい) introduction; 紹介(しょうかい)する to introduce
美雪：えっ、結婚決まったの？
美雪(みゆき)：えっ、結婚(けっこん)決(き)まったの？
Miyuki: has your marriage been decided?

知子：うん。

Tomoko: Yeah.
美雪：初めて紹介するの？

Miyuki: Will this be the first time you're introducing him?
知子：お母さんは会ったことあるよ。
知子(ともこ)：お母(かあ)さんは会(あ)ったことあるよ。
Tomoko: My mum has met him before.

- こと[が]ある to have experience of… (after the past tense); there are times when…, sometimes (after the present tense) e.g. そこに行(い)ったことがある = I have been there; そこに行(い)くことがある = I sometimes go there
美雪：お父さんは初めて？
美雪(みゆき)：お父(とう)さんは初(はじ)めて？
Miyuki: It's the first time for your dad?

知子：うん。
知子(ともこ)：うん。
Tomoko: Yeah.
美雪：知子のお父さんって確か厳しくなかった？
美雪(みゆき)：知子(ともこ)のお父(とう)さんって確(たし)か厳(きび)しくなかった？
Miyuki: Wasn't your dad strict, if I recall?
- 厳(きび)しい strict; hard
知子：うん、結構厳しいんだよね。

Tomoko: Yeah, he's pretty strict.
美雪：大丈夫だよ。知子の彼ってとってもいい人だから。
美雪(みゆき)：大丈夫(だいじょうぶ)だよ。知子(ともこ)の彼(かれ)ってとってもいい人(ひと)だから。
Miyuki: It'll be fine, since your boyfriend is a really great person.

Tomoko: I guess. It'll be great if my dad accepts him.

Miyuki: My dad eventually accepted my husband too when we got married, so it'll be fine.
知子：そうだね。お母さんもいるしね。

Tomoko: That's true. There's also my mum at least.
