妻(つま)：お父(とう)さん。明日(あした)、ひろしを迎(むか)えに行(い)くの、忘(わす)れないでね。

夫(おっと)：了解(りょうかい)！言(い)われなくても、覚(おぼ)えてるよ。

Husband: Got it! You don't have to tell me that. I remember.

• 了解(りょうかい) OK; roger
• 言いわれなくて negative form of 言いわれて
• 言いわれて passive te-form of 言いう (言いう ->言いわれる -> 言いわれて)

妻(つま)：ごめんごめん。一応(いちおう)、言(い)っとこうと思(おも)って。

Wife: Sorry. I thought I should say it just in case.

夫(おっと)：三時(さんじ)だよね？自転車(じてんしゃ)で迎(むか)えに行(い)くね。

Husband: Three o'clock, right? I'll pick him up by my bicycle there.

妻(つま)：あ。明日(あした)は午後(ごご)から雨(あめ)みたいだよ。

Wife: Oh. It seems like it's going to rain tomorrow afternoon.

夫(おっと)：え、そうなの？午後(ごご)って何時(なんじ)くらい？

Husband: What? Really? Around what time in the afternoon?

妻(つま)：えー、それはわかんない。私(わたし)もテレビでちょっと見(み)ただけだし。

Wife: Uh, I don't know. I only saw it briefly on TV.

夫(おっと)：そっか、まあいいや。けど、雨(あめ)は嫌(いや)だなあ。

Husband: I see. Never mind. But rain sounds horrid.

• 嫌(いや) unpleasant; disagreeable

妻(つま)：自転車(じてんしゃ)で行(い)くのは、やめた方(ほう)がいいんじゃない？

Wife: You probably shouldn't ride your bicycle there, should you?

• ～方(ほう)がいい it's better to: 歩(ある)いたほうがいい。It's better to walk; to prefer: ラーメンのほうがいい。I prefer ramen.

夫(おっと)：了解(りょうかい)。歩(ある)いて行(い)くよ。別(べつ)に、三時(さんじ)ちょうどに行(い)かなくてもいいよね？

Husband: Got it. I'll walk there. I don't have to get there at exactly three o'clock anyway, right?

妻(つま)：え、なんで？

Wife: Huh? Why?

夫(おっと)：みんな、三時(さんじ)ちょうどに迎(むか)えに来(き)てるでしょ？できれば、あんまり会(あ)いたくないんだよね。

Husband: Everyone arrives at exactly three o'clock to pick up their children, right? If possible, I don't want to meet them.

• ～でしょ reminding something (you think is) obvious: 私わたし、お金かねないでしょ？I don't have money, right?; 見みて、この T シャツかわいいでしょ。Look, this T-shirt is cute, isn’t it?; making a guess: 明日あしたは晴はれるでしょう。It is likely to be sunny tomorrow.
• ～ば if: 行(い)けば分(わ)かる。You'll understand if you go; why don't you?: だったら行(い)けば。Then, why don't you go.

妻(つま)：なんで？他(ほか)のお父(とう)さんたちと、話(はな)してみればいいじゃん。

Wife: Why? Why not try talking to the other fathers?

夫(おっと)：いや。それが嫌(いや)なんだよ。

Husband: No. That's what I don't like.

Yamamoto-san and Tanaka-san are talking at the company.

Tanaka: Wow, thank you. That makes me happy.

山本(やまもと)：ほんと、良(よ)かったね。相手(あいて)はどんな人(ひと)なの？

Yamamoto: Really, good for you. What's your spouse like?

• 相手(あいて) companion; partner

田中(たなか)：えー、なんて言(い)ったらいいかな。相手(あいて)の立場(たちば)に立(た)って、いつも考(かんが)えてくれる人(ひと)です。

Tanaka: Hmm, what should I say? She's someone who always puts herself in the shoes of others.

山本(やまもと)：へー、それはすごい。絶対(ぜったい)いい人(ひと)じゃん。

Yamamoto: Wow, that's amazing. She must be a good person.

田中(たなか)：そうなんです。いい人(ひと)なんです。

Tanaka: That's right. She's a good person.

山本(やまもと)：ははは。いいなあ。うちも、昔(むかし)はそんな感(かん)じだったのになあ。

Yamamoto: Hahaha. That's nice. My wife used to be like that too, but...

田中(たなか)：あれ。山本(やまもと)さんは、結婚(けっこん)して長(なが)いんですか？

Tanaka: Huh? Yamamoto-san, have you been married for a long time?

山本(やまもと)：今年(ことし)、結婚(けっこん)してちょうど２０年(ねん)だね。

Yamamoto: This year marks our 20th year of marriage.

田中(たなか)：そうなんですか！？おめでとうございます。

Tanaka: Really!? Congratulations.

山本(やまもと)：いやいや。そうでもないよ。

Yamamoto: No, no. There's nothing worth congratulating.

田中(たなか)：えー。なんでですか？

Tanaka: Huh? Why?

山本(やまもと)：最近(さいきん)、全然(ぜんぜん)うまくいってないし。相手(あいて)の立場(たちば)に立(た)つなんて、全(まった)くなくなったよ。

Yamamoto: Recently, our marriage has never been going well. She no longer puts herself in the other party's shoes at all.

田中(たなか)：そうなんですか。いろいろと、大変(たいへん)なんですね。

Tanaka: I see. You must be having a hard time.

山本(やまもと)：ごめんごめん。こんな話(はなし)はやめとくね。あ、旅行(りょこう)とか行(い)かないの？

Yamamoto: Sorry. I'll stop talking about a story like this. Oh, are you not taking a trip somewhere?
