Mamoru and Yurie are talking as they walk.

Mamoru: Oh. You look a bit pale, don't you? Are you all right?

ユリエ：うん。ちょっとおなか痛(いた)いかな。

Yurie: Well, I guess my stomach hurts a bit.

Mamoru: What, are you all right? Do you want to go to the bathroom or sit somewhere to rest?

ユリエ：トイレは大丈夫(だいじょうぶ)。けど、ちょっと休(やす)もうかな。楽(らく)になるまで。

Yurie: I'm all right without going to the bathroom. But maybe I should rest a bit, until I feel at ease.

マモル：そうしよう。じゃあここに座(すわ)ろう。

Mamoru: Let's do that. Then let's sit here.

ユリエ：ごめんね。ありがとう。

Yurie: Sorry. Thanks.

マモル：いやいや。けど、突然(とつぜん)顔色(かおいろ)悪(わる)くなるし、びっくりしたよ。

Mamoru: It's fine. But it surprised me. You suddenly became pale.

• 突然(とつぜん) suddenly

ユリエ：昔(むかし)からなんだよね。突然(とつぜん)おなかが痛(いた)くなるの。

Yurie: It has been like this for a long time. My stomach suddenly starts to hurt.

マモル：へー。昔(むかし)って、子供(こども)の頃(ころ)から？

Mamoru: Interesting. When you say for a long time, has it been since you were a child?

ユリエ：うん。なんか難(むずか)しい病気(びょうき)なんだって。名前(なまえ)長(なが)くて覚(おぼ)えてないけど。

Yurie: Yeah. It seems to be quite a difficult disease. Although I can't remember its name because it's long.

マモル：そうなんだ。

Mamoru: I see.

ユリエ：しかも、病気(びょうき)の原因(げんいん)もまだはっきりわかってないみたい。

Yurie: On top of that, it seems the cause of this disease isn't known clearly yet.

マモル：治療(ちりょう)する方法(ほうほう)もないの？

Mamoru: There is no way to treat it either?

• 治療(ちりょう) cure, treatment, therapy; 治療(ちりょう)する to treat, to cure

ユリエ：うん。治療(ちりょう)はできないけど、薬(くすり)はあるよ。ちゃんと薬(くすり)を飲(の)めば楽(らく)にはなるね。

Yurie: That's right. It can't be treated, but there is medicine. If I take the medicine properly, I feel at ease.

マモル：そうなんだ。大変(たいへん)なんだね。

Mamoru: I see. It's tough, isn't it?

ユリエ：まあけど、昔(むかし)は薬(くすり)もなかったみたいだしさ、薬(くすり)ができてよかったよ。

Yurie: Well, it seems that the medicine didn't exist before, so I'm glad there is medicine now.

Situation 2

Taguchi-san and Ishii-san are speaking in the office.

Ishii: That's true. I wonder if winter ended before we knew it.

Taguchi: If it's this hot, cherry blossoms may bloom, right?

Ishii: I heard the cherry blossoms will bloom earlier than usual this year. It looks like they will bloom in about a week.

田口(たぐち)：え、そうなんですか。はやいですねえ。

Taguchi: What? Is that right? That's early, isn't it?

石井(いしい)：だよね。あー、今年(ことし)は花見(はなみ)したいなあ。

Ishii: That's right. Ah, I want to do hanami this year.

田口(たぐち)：いいですね。僕(ぼく)もやりたいです。会社(かいしゃ)のみんなを誘(さそ)って花見(はなみ)しましょうよ！

Taguchi: That would be nice. I would like to do that too. Let's invite everybody from the company and do hanami together!

石井(いしい)：おー、いいね。田口(たぐち)さん、計画(けいかく)してくれる？

Ishii: Oh, that's nice. Taguchi-san, can you plan it?

田口(たぐち)：わかりました！えーっと、まずは場所(ばしょ)か。どっかいい公園(こうえん)とかありますか？

Taguchi: I am on it! Um, first is the location. Is there a good park somewhere?

石井(いしい)：おれの家(いえ)の近(ちか)くにいい公園(こうえん)あるよ。桜(さくら)がすごくきれいだし、人(ひと)もそんなにいない。

Ishii: There's a nice park by my house. The cherry blossoms are really beautiful, and there aren't that many people either.

田口(たぐち)：それはいいですね。じゃあ、そこにしましょう。

Taguchi: That is nice. Then let's do it there.

石井(いしい)：日(ひ)にちはどうしようかな。まあ、桜(さくら)がほんとに一週間(いっしゅうかん)で咲(さ)くか、だよね。

Ishii: What should we do about the date? Well, it depends on whether or not the cherry blossoms actually bloom in a week, right?

• 日(ひ)にち date: 日(ひ)にち決(き)めよう。Let's decide on the date.

田口(たぐち)：そうですよね。桜(さくら)は僕(ぼく)たちの計画(けいかく)に合(あ)わせて咲(さ)いてくれませんよね。

Taguchi: That's right. Since cherry blossoms don't bloom based on our plans, right?

石井(いしい)：じゃあ、日(ひ)にちは桜(さくら)の様子(ようす)を見(み)ながら決(き)めるか。

Ishii: Then let's decide on the date as we keep an eye on the status of the cherry blossoms.

田口(たぐち)：わかりました。僕(ぼく)はまずみんなを誘(さそ)っておきます！

Taguchi: I understand. I'll start by inviting everybody!
