                            Sometimes. It depends.
                            大事 means important or serious.
大切 can mean important, but it means valuable or essential.
You have affection or mentally attached to it.

This と means “from” as in “different from” or “be changed from.”

                            Hello,
I just worked through the first situation and I think there is a mistake in the explanation

会って(い)た progressive, past form of 会う to eat (会う -> 会って(い)る -> 会って(い)た)

                            Shouldn’t this be “to meet”?

                            Also
思って(い)た progressive, past form of 思う to eat (思う -> 思って(い)る -> 思って(い)た)

This should be “to think” と思います 🙂

Hello, I have a question for a sentence said in situation 1: そうじゃないかと思ったんですが。やっぱり 。I thought it would translate into something like: “I knew it, I thought that wasn’t the case.” Can you explain how it was translated to: “I thought maybe you did. I see.” Thank you for your time.

                            I understand it’s tricky.

“I thought that wasn’t the case.” means そうじゃないと思った.
                            そうじゃない (it’s not) +と +思った

Strictly speaking, そうじゃないかと思った means “I suspected it could be the case”
そうじゃないか (it could be, could it be?) + と + 思った

If 田中 was more sure, she would say:
                            そうだと思ったんです – I thought so.

I think I understand, so the か pretty much adds a large sense of uncertainty and ambiguity it seems like. Thank you for that!

I also have another question regarding って. Does the word presiding the って (like a Na/No adjective, noun etc.) dictate whether だって or って is used, or is it interchangeable? For instance, one of the example sentences of って in the vocabulary for situation 2 says, “鈴木さん、元気だって。” Would, “鈴木さん、元気って。” be wrong? I ask because another example sentence reads, “鈴木さん、休みって。” despite 休み being a noun and not a verb or I- adjective.

Sorry for the drawn out and complicated question. I appreciate and thank you for your help.

                            Exactly! You’ve got it right.

                            鈴木さん、休みって言ってた should be written either:
                            1. 鈴木さん、休むって言ってた – I heard Suzuki saying he/she would be absent.
(The speaker heard it directly from Suzuki)

2.鈴木さん、休みだって言ってた – I heard (someone) saying Suzuki was absent.
(The speaker could hear it from someone else)

※ In daily conversation, だ is sometimes omitted.
The example sentence is not a good sentence, but I’d say it’s acceptable for at least some people.

                            鈴木さん、元気って doesn’t sound natural, either.
I think it’s more understandable if you use a quotation mark.
鈴木さん、「元気だ」って ー Suzuki said, “I’m fine” (or someone Suzuki knows is fine.)
                            鈴木さん、「元気」って ー Suzuki said, “vigor.”(or “health”)
※ It’s like Suzuki just said the word 元気, or Suzuki asked the speaker if they are fine like 元気?

You already understand how and when to use xxxだって and xxxって correctly.
When you find sentences like above, you can assume they omit だ or they don’t write well.

Yes, it is a complicated sentence.

                            もうスマホ出でてこないかも→もう、スマホ、出てこないかも って 思ってた から。
                            =もう、スマホが出てこないかもしれない と 思っていた から。

Does it make sense? If any question, please let me know.
