In situation one そうなんです。バスでなきゃいいのにっていつも思ってました。it translates to “Tanaka: Right. I was always thinking that it would be fine if it wasn’t by bus.” I was wondering where the negative or “wasn’t” part is in the sentence. As I can’t seem to find it. You have なきゃいい or “I have to” のに which is “although, despite the fact, even though” and いつも思ってました “Always thought”.

I feel like I’m missing something.

I understand negative forms are tricky.
バスでなきゃ means “if it wasn’t by bus” part.
でなきゃ is a casual form of ではなかったら or じゃなかったら (conditional form)
                            いい means “fine” or “good.”
But here, いいのに means “I wish” or “If only.”
The speaker thought “I always wished we didn’t have to take a bus for a school trip.”
She wanted to go by train or something, instead of by bus.

Could you break this sentence down on how it was translated? “見たことないものとか、出てこないの”

                            Thank you!

                            みたことないもの とか、出てこない の

                            Thank you Ladd-sensei!
I understand こと and もの translated as being “things” but こと is used to normalize a verb to a noun.
Is this why there are two “things” in this sentence?
