Situation 1

Nakaoka-san, who works at a factory that manufactures car parts, is at a meeting with Kitahama-san from a car company.

北浜(きたはま)：とりあえず、以前(いぜん)申(もう)し上(あ)げたパーツはお願(ねが)いします。それに加(くわ)えて、他(ほか)にもパーツをお願(ねが)いすることになりそうです。

• とりあえず for the time being; for now; anyway

• 加(くわ)える to add; to include

• 詳(くわ)しい detailed, in detail; to know well, familiar (with)
• 決(き)まる to be decided

中岡(なかおか)：それなら、とりあえず以前(いぜん)メールしていただいたパーツだけ、先(さき)に作(つく)りますね。

北浜(きたはま)：どのパーツを加(くわ)えるか、詳(くわ)しいことが決(き)まったらまたメールしますね。

高尾(たかお)：いいね！どっか探(さが)そう。お前(まえ)、何(なに)食(く)いたい？

• 探(さが)す to look for; to search for; to seek
• お前(まえ) you (colloquial); only used for someone close and can be very rude with strangers
• 食(く)う to eat; to consume (less polite than 食(た)べる)

小島(こじま)：行(い)きたいお店(みせ)があるんだ。元々(もともと)病院(びょういん)だったとこに、お店(みせ)ができたらしい。お酒(さけ)がおいしいんだって。

• 元々(もともと) from the first; originally
• 酒(さけ) alcohol; sake; rice wine

高尾(たかお)：えー。俺(おれ)、酒(さけ)飲(の)めないんだけど。

小島(こじま)：ほんと？ 前(まえ)は飲(の)めたよね？

高尾(たかお)：元々(もともと)飲(の)めないよ。この前(まえ)、みんなで飯(めし)行(い)ったときも飲(の)まなかったでしょ。お前(まえ)、覚(おぼ)えてないの？

• 飯(めし) slang word for ごはん (food, meal)
• ～でしょ、でしょう reminding something (you think is) obvious: 私(わたし)、お金(かね)ないでしょ？I don't have money, right?; 見(み)て、この T シャツかわいいでしょ。Look, this T-shirt is cute, isn’t it?; making a guess: 明日(あした)は晴(は)れるでしょう。It is likely to be sunny tomorrow.

小島(こじま)：そうだっけ？ じゃあ、別(べつ)のとこ探(さが)すわ。

• ～っけ？ Is it?; used for something or someone you don't quite remember clearly: それ、誰(だれ)だっけ？Who was it again?; 明日(あした)、学校(がっこう)休(やす)みだっけ？There's no school tomorrow, right?
• ～わ can be feminine with a rising pitch and non-feminine with a falling pitch; 食(た)べるわ。(where わ is said with a rising pitch) sounds feminine. You hear this more often in fiction and real-life Japanese women don't use it as often as fictional characters. On the other hand, non-feminine わ is common in real-life, especially with young people.

高尾(たかお)：まあ、飯(めし)食(く)えるならいいよ。飯(めし)もうまいんでしょ？

小島(こじま)：待(ま)って、スマホでレビュー探(さが)す。……結構(けっこう)いい感(かん)じ。写真(しゃしん)もあるよ。魚(さかな)がおいしそう。
