Quick question…
I am used to と being used for ‘and’, or to link things together.
When Maki-san says:
I instantly thought of it being cheap AND to think about it.
Maybe I was looking for something like:
やすいと思います。
Of course, this is a completely different meaning.
Can you explain how と is being used in this situation? Sorry if this has been asked before.
Thank you!!

We use the auxiliary とto indicate the content of 思います.
It is used to denote speculation.
When we judge or think of the negative, the part before と will be negative.
It is often used to express ideas.
When asking someone about something, we use “ 〇〇についてどう思いますか。In this case, とis removed.

I think the restaurant is expensive.
I think anime is not fun.
What do you think about the book?

Hope this helps!

Last comment, honestly.

Can なんか be used in both of these ways?
Depending on the context: I don’t like fish. I don’t like seafood. I don’t like fish-type stuff.
I kind of don’t like fish.

It’s kind of a few.

Wow! That finally gives me a good idea of how なんか is used.

Thanks

You give 後あと、あと after; later; the rest; also; in addition; from now

How is あと being used? later? the rest?

When a word has multiple uses it will be beneficial if the particular usage in the current conversation was highlighted especially when the word isn’t included in the translation (basically conveys an unspoken feeling or thought).

Thank you so much for all your hard work.

In this context, it means after, later; the rest; also; in addition; from now
あとhas many translations in the situation.
Please remember that Japanese words sometimes cannot be translated into one English word to convey the meaning. It sounds complicated, I know.

In the sentence,あと indicates the following.
After: after you came, who is coming?
Later; who is coming later?
The rest: The boss is asking him who is the rest of the participants.
Also: who is also coming?
In addition: additionally, who is coming?
From now; who is coming from now?

Hope this helps!
