In situation 3, it asks ケンは、もう出ますか?
I thought the answer was B, but I must have misunderstood. What is it asking?
The question: Is Ken about to leave?
Ken has not left yet in the context. That is why the answer is A hai.
いい答えた、でも、あまりわかりませんでした。
If any questions, please let me know.
In the second example, when Takahashi asks what Yamada bought she uses the phrase “何買ったんですか?” instead of “何買いましたか?”
Is there a reason for that other than she’s just copying what Yamada had originally said? Thank you!
That’s a good question!
xxxんです is usually used to explain a situation or circumstance, but it’s also used when you want to talk about it. It implies “I want to tell you about it” or “I want you to ask me about it.”
最近、新しい物を買ったんです is like saying “You know what? I’ve bought something new recently.”
So, when someone brings up a topic with んです, we usually ask them about it.
xxxんですか? is usually used when you seek information or an explanation.
It can also express you ask a question because you are interested in hearing about it.
By saying 何(を)買ったんですか? she not only asks a question but also shows her interest in knowing what 山田 has bought.
Does it make sense?
Ah yes, that makes sense!
Thank you very much.
No problem. Happy to help. : )
