Hello!

session 2
前のより大きいね
In this case I think I should have something like (このスマホ あの )前のより大きいね

I think about a sentence of comparison like this このイチゴは、あのイチゴより大きい. A noun that is indicate and, the other noun and then the より and then the adjective. Is it right to assume that everything that I added is just omited?

の as in 前のより大きいね works as “one.”
It is used in place of the word スマホ.
It’s the same as 前のスマホより大きいね。- That’s bigger than your previous smartphone.
By using の (one), you can avoid repeating the same word(スマホ).

In situation 2 “うん。新しいの買っちゃった”
ちゃった here means end up doing . So if I translate literally does it mean ,”yes. I end up buying a new one”?

Also. In situation 3,”今日、ご飯でもどう”
ifでも in this context is “how about” and どうis also “how about” seems like double words. Can we just use ご飯どう?

> In situation 2 “うん。新しいの買っちゃった”
ちゃった here means end up doing . So if I translate literally does it mean ,”yes. I end up buying a new one”?

ー It depends on the context.
xxxちゃった works as “couldn’t resist doing something” or “couldn’t stop doing something” as well. Here, he might still be able to use his old phone, but he couldn’t stop buying the new one probably because the new one seemed appealing to him.

If he had no choice but to buy a new one against his will, he would also say 買っちゃった (I ended up buying it after all).

> Also. In situation 3,”今日、ご飯でもどう”
ifでも in this context is “how about” and どうis also “how about” seems like double words.

ー Here, でも works as “or something.”
So the sentence means “How about going out to eat or something (with me)?”
It implies the speaker is willing to accept if the other wants to do something else.

> Can we just use ご飯どう?

ー You can, if you particularly want to go out to eat, but in that case, we usually say
ご飯行かない? or xを食べに行こうよ (Let’s eat X together).

Does it make sense?
