Step 2 - Take the Quiz
Let's see how many words you remember.
Take the quiz here.
Step 3 - Writing Exercises (Optional)
Let's practice what you learned here.
“๏ผ๏ผๆ้ ใซใฏ่กใใใจๆใใ ” is quite a tongue-twister to say at speed, for me! (I’m often looping the audio and shadowing the sentence while reading, to get used to the sound combinations)
That’s a good way to practice!
Itโs good to break the sentence down first and practice in small chunks.
For example, you can practice ๆใใ, and then ่กใใใจๆใใ.
If you can say smoothly, you can practice 12ๆ and then 12ๆ้ ใซใฏ.
You’re on the right track!
Yes, that’s exactly what I do! I usually start with the first couple of words in a (difficult to pronounce) sentence, I read slightly ahead and mentally prepare to speak the words shadowing the audio (and then let the rest go if that’s what I manage, and wait around for the beginning). Then I add the next part and so on, and after a while I have it all. I definitely feel that this works well (and helps with reading too). (Each word separately may not be a problem, the combination of words create sound changes that I’m not used to and that’s the tricky/fun part.. like in the sentence I commented on ๐
You may be more sensitive because you listen to Japanese as a sound.
Most Japanese do not care about, or may not even notice, that level of change in sound. ๐
I understand, but the sentences I have to practice a bit on are _literally_ tongue-twisters.. my tongue isn’t used to some of the switches which happens in Japanese throughout a sentence, which means I would have to stop completely before continuing. And those cases are what I’m practicing (people with a different native language background than myself may have different issues). For sounds in general I’m not so worried – when I mentioned to a Japanese friend that it was a bit tricky to get the exact sometimes-L and sometimes-R sound depending on the word, she said “don’t worry – we don’t hear the difference anyway!” ๐
Ah, I see.
I think I understand what you mean. It’s almost impossible for me to pronounce “r” in French. ๐
The Japanese ใ column not the same as L or R, so it might be confusing.
But your friend gave you good advice. xD
Keep up the great work, but at the same time, take it easy!
