リカ：次はいい点取るって、この前言わなかった？
ナオキ：もちろん取りたいけど。昨日も遊んじゃった。
リカ：早く勉強しないと、テスト始まっちゃうよ？
ナオキ：分かってる。明日からやるよ。
リカ：今回もいい点取るの難しそう…。

The translation for 早く勉強しないと、テスト始まっちゃうよ？sounds odd, maybe too literal. “If you don’t study soon, the tests will start.” Like why would not studying make the tests start? I remembered that ないとcan be a contraction for ~ないといけない. So I think “You have to study soon, the tests are about to start, you know?” makes more sense.
Thank you for pointing that out. You are right. It does sound odd.
The sentence means
“You should start studying quickly because the exam period is going to start soon.”
or
“You should start studying quickly, or you can’t prepare for the exams because the exam period is going to start soon.”
The sentence doesn’t say but implies the “or you can’t prepare for the exams” part.
xxxと as in しないと here works like “or” or “otherwise”.
