Why do you use yaru koto atte? This is for the second exercise. Can’t you say yaru koto aru? Why use the te form? For example, if I have work, I would say “shigoto ga aru”, not “shigoto ga atte”. Appreciate your help.

When ending with “…て” or “…って,” the rest of the sentence is left unsaid.
This is because the listener can understand the missing part from context.
By not stating the full sentence, the speaker creates a softer refusal or a slightly reserved tone.
It also conveys a sense of hesitation or an intention for the listener to infer the rest.

On the other hand, saying “…ある” or “…あるの” in full gives a more direct and clear refusal.

Is there a difference between saying ”そっか” and saying ”そうだったんですか”? The latter seems much longer than the first for translating the exact same.

They are different.
そっか is a casual form of そうか or そうですか, which means “I see.”

On the other hand, そうだったんですか? means “Was it so?” It implies “I didn’t know that.”
