Hi! I’ve got a queston. How is this :”その服、いいんじゃない。I think these clothes are nice.” not negative and translated as “I do not think these clothes are nice”?
Thanks in advance!
I think these clothes are not nice.*
The sentence means “That outfit’s pretty nice, don’t you think?” or “That outfit’s pretty nice, isn’t it?”
If the speaker says その服、いいね (That outfit looks nice.), they’re simply giving their opinion.
But by saying いいんじゃない, they’re not just expressing their view — they’re also inviting your opinion or reaction.
Does it make sense?
Thank you, Hana Sensei!
I see. In the pop-up explanation of the last line in the situation 1 the translation is as I wrote it first and could not understand how to use んじゃない。The explanation given is good I also needed the one you gave me. Now it’s clear. Thank you!
You’re very welcome! I’m glad to hear that the explanation helped.
Keep it up, and enjoy your learning! : )
