Let's practice what you learned here.
The beginning of the fourth situation has me kind of confused. 新しい車買ったじゃん?俺 。 (I bought a new car, remember?).
I can understand it saying I bought a new car, but the remember part I’m not understanding.
I understand what you mean.
The standard form of the sentence can be : 俺、新しい車買ったでしょ? – I bought a new car, right?
じゃん? is a casual form of でしょ?
It’s often used to seek confirmation or mutual understanding.
It suggests that the speaker has already mentioned it and expects the listener to remember.
Does it make sense?
I understand what you mean now. ありがとございます

About the 4th situation.
あれ?この前、言わなかった?Huh! the other day didn’t I tell you ?
はい。今、初めて知りました。”Yes, now first time ‘found out’ “;This seems a contradiction to me!!!!!
My question is; should the answer not be ” No (you didn’t tell me the other day), now first time ‘found out’?
ie ie ううん。今、初めて知りました。
Thanks
In Japanese, it works like this:
この前、言わなかった?- “Am I wrong in thinking I told you that the other day?”
はい。今、初めて知りました。- “Yes (You are wrong). That’s the first time I’ve heard it.”
This sentence この前、言わなかった? is translated as “Didn’t I tell you?” because that’s how English speakers say it in the same situation.
Thanks.
I have another question about:
斉藤:あれ?この前、言わなかった?
Listening to 斉藤 saying 「あれ?」、its sounds, to my ears, like I am hearing 「おれ」?
Thanks
No problem!
This voice actor pronounces the あ vowel somewhat ambiguously.
To my ears, it sounds like something between あ and お.
While clear pronunciation is preferable, some people do pronounce it this way, so it’s good to get used to it. Also, judging meaning based on context is important.
Thankyou for your answer.
You’re welcome!

just thinking out loud… but i wish we could have the tool-tip translation help on the comprehension questions! or at least a revealable translation for the question itself, before you check the answer?
i’m starting to be able to read some of them, but often i can still only kinda-sorta parse the question… which means i’m not sure i’m understanding it correctly, even if i guess the right answer!
お疲れ様です!
Thank you for your suggestions!
