You can’t say This is considered incorrect.
As you wrote, we say あまり食べません or そんなに食べません.

In an affirmative sentence, よく can mean “often,” “frequently,” “properly,” “carefully,” or “well.”
For example:
– I often go to a library.
– Please read the instruction manual carefully.
– He knows Japanese culture very well.

In a negative sentence, よく can mean “much” (frequency, amount, or degree) or “well” (ability or state).
For example:
- I don’t know much about that person.
- Without glasses, I can’t see well.

For now, to avoid confusion, you can focus on practicing writing your own sentences or asking questions if needed for your own learning, rather than answering questions from other members.

よく means “much” or “well” in a negative sentence.
So, よく分からない means “I don’t know much about it.” or “I don’t know it well.”.

Also, in the same sentence, why is 分からなくて in the te-form?

The full sentence should be:
– Since it was my first time in this town, I felt a bit lost and confused.

Here, the “〜て” form is used to give a reason — in this case, that it’s his first time in the town and he doesn’t know how to get to the ramen place.
He leaves out the part like “困っていたんです” because the listener can already understand the situation from the context.
By omitting the rest, he implies his request more humbly and softly.
